At least one person was killed and two others injured when a commercial vehicle they were travelling in came under attack on the road between Wau and Tonj States on Sunday, a local official said.

Tonj State information minister, William Wuol Mayom told Radio Tamazuj that a Land Cruiser vehicle was attacked by unknown gunmen a few kilometres outside Wau town.

“The ambush took place at Rochroch Dong on Sunday morning. The car was heading to Tonj,” Mayom said.

“It was a targeted attack because the owner of the vehicle is a well-known businessman from Tonj State,” he added.

Mayom further said 22 people, mostly business people, were on board.
